One Hundred Dresses

I have a mission to make myself
a few sweet summer dresses.
I  found the perfect A-line dress,
created by talented seamstress Sonya Philip.
She made 100 dress over the year.
I'm going to buy her book, complete with A-line pattern.
You can read more about Sonya here and at 100 acts of sewing.
I'm crossing my fingers she sews her way to Boston.

Jennifer Collier

...by bonding, waxing, trapping and stitching I produce unusual paper ‘fabrics’, which are used to explore the ‘remaking’ of household objects. the papers are treated as if cloth, with the main technique employed being stitch; a contemporary twist on traditional textiles. the papers themselves serve as both the inspiration and the media for my work, with the narrative of the books and papers suggesting the forms.

Button UP

In the midst of putting finishing touches on pillows for my SHOP
I came across these gems.
Buttons from my Aunt's sewing kit, which is filled to the rim with all
sorts of notions and potions.
I couldn't resist sharing, however, I do not think I will use these quite yet.
I have memories of spilling my Mom's button collection
( a coffee can covered in white contact paper with pink tulips) and spending time sorting the buttons by color and size. It's  fun to grab a handful
and let them slide through your fingers.
Or find them sewn in a tidy row on a vintage card, wrinkled and worn but still intact.

SEWING Workshop

The Sewing Workshop last week required
lots of colorfully threaded sharp needles,
pattern for felt bird,
6 felt bird shapes X 14 sewers,
and a big box of band-aids (just in case).
I was given two hand sewn felt birds last Christmas from my sweet friends Eli and Zoe.  Their very clever mom Michelle set them up to stitch these beautiful ornaments... I have admired them ever since.
14 felt birds flew out of  the studio with great big smiles on their beaks!

This felt bird pattern can be found at Purl Soho.
Thanks E and Z. xo

PIN THIS

It's been a week of sorting, sifting, stacking and sewing.  I'm playing with colorful combinations of textures, pattern and shapes.  The studio is empty except for me, my machine, my music and piles of my favorite fabrics. I'm savoring every minute.

studio carta

I found Angela's cotton ribbon sampler at a
holiday show and bought
one for myself and one for my friend.
I didn't know what I was going to make or do with this ribbon, I was just crazy about the combination of colorful rolls in the clear packaging.
Recently, I started to make cards with the collection and now...
well.. I just can't stop.
I like to mix up the colors
and sew the pieces onto flat cards.
They remind me of a clothes line,
                                                  simple and beautiful.
For more loveliness in the card, stationary,
ribbon and letterpress world visit Studio Carta.
                                                             Thank you Angela!
