Marbling with shaving cream

 Adding drops of color

Gently swirling

Pressing  paper on to swirled color

Peeling paper off, this is where it gets globby but keep going
Scraping excess shaving cream off of paper
                                                                               MAGIC!

Printing is big at beehive
Marbling is also.
This is a combination of both. Colorful, magical AND it smells good.
WE could have printed all day.
We used photograph paper for a smooth glossy surface and finish.
Liquid water colors, shaving cream, droppers, scrapers and paper - you will need a stack!

beehive quilts

This is us sewing at beehive's pins and needles class.
I was inspired after my friend gave me bags of really beautiful fabric.
Many many squares, pins, back stitches and snips later.. these beautiful quilts walked out of the studio. Just in time to curl up cozy with a book!

beehive kids and their puppets

I took many many  photographs of this great group of kids,
their mission was to crack me up with their expressions.
We just completed an 8 week class,
just in time to add finishing touches to their puppets.

I also really like the way the puppets look before paint.
Cardboard and newspaper.  Simple.

mobiles

The past week I've been working a new mobiles for this and that.
I sewed up  bunches of white mobiles for the beehive classes to design and color.  The younger beehive crowd added big bold watercolor to their mobiles. Older kids drew intricate patterns and designs with color pencils and added touches of watercolor.

The best part.. they love them!

paper weaving

ALL spring classes at beehive tried their hands at paper weaving.
It's tricky, but once you get the hang of it...  oooooo la la!
A beautiful collection of color and focus.
YAY beehive kids!

PASTE PAINT PAPERS

PASTE PAINT is one of my favorite mediums.  It's all about experimenting with lots of pots of colors, color blending, lines, patterns and texture.

Using a blender we whipped up several colors using different pigments of tempera and acrylic. We added just a smidge of pigment so that the paste paint has some transparency. If you want a more opaque look, add more pigment.
There are many recipes out there for paste paint, the one we used I found here.

In a previous class, each child had painted several sheets of paper with tempera,
for the background color.

Add a small dollop of paste paint to painted paper and brush evenly. We dragged plastic combs across the surface to create color patterns and cool line formations.

Make sure everyone has several sheets of papers to experiment with,
it's THAT much fun!
