Jennifer Collier

...by bonding, waxing, trapping and stitching I produce unusual paper ‘fabrics’, which are used to explore the ‘remaking’ of household objects. the papers are treated as if cloth, with the main technique employed being stitch; a contemporary twist on traditional textiles. the papers themselves serve as both the inspiration and the media for my work, with the narrative of the books and papers suggesting the forms.

Felt Pillows

We just made these woven felt pillows at the studio this afternoon.
Felt is a great material to work with, easily cut into narrow strips for weaving.
The weaving can be tricky for the children,
but once mastered is something they can always do.
I love these colorful treasures.

I came upon this last fall and found it again today in my archives.

Sealed with a Kiss

Yesterday we glued, sprinkled,
                   colored, scissored,
                   folded and painted
               V A L E N T I N E S
                  to our heart's content.
I was sad to see my friends go,
yet after the glitter had settled,
I noticed a twinkling trail of sparkle out the studio door.
