Outside in

I dream about these thistles in January

when I cannot walk around my house due to the huge snow drifts. 

My friend Ellen gave them to me from her garden when we first moved here 9 years ago. 

They grow in the hot hot sun, next to the tomatoes in the back of the house.

In shades of  blue and purple, they're prickly to touch,

and have a wonderful grape scent.  I love them so much I had to bring them in.

 Spark and I watched  i am sam  last night.

  We have watched this incredible movie again and again.  

We  laugh and sing and cry cry cry every single time.

BIG color

Big color,
big shapes,
big paintings...

that's what we painted yesterday with THAT colorful palette,
big paper and
lots of rollers.

                            Today we will be painting from a palette of this colorful combination, 
                                          inspired by photograph taken by kateyjoy.

 We LOVE to create frames at Beehive,
this time around we were working with a wood frame.

  I have a huge collection of tie dyed material/scraps
that I just knew I'd be diving into this summer.
I cut the fabric into smallish shapes,
the kids then glued selected pieces on to their frames.  

The cherry on top is the colored rice, one of many tidbits
