Early Bird ART

Summer ART 2011 begins this week with Early Bird ART.  Specifically for Pre-K, 3/4-5 year olds, Early Bird is an exciting studio art program that bridges the gap between the end of pre-K and the beginning of summer activities.
I say.. Bring it ON! ..and stay tuned for some very colorful sneak peeks!

PINK

My most favorite June flower, it's lovely fragrance, beauty color and the miraculous bloom year after year. You are worth every snow storm, snow pile and every bitter, icy cold day.
                                        I adore you PEONY!

Orange

I couldn't resist sharing this garden beauty before heading out on my bike this morning.

Girls at ART

My sweet friend Ali wanted to host an ART PARTY at Beehive for her friends Allison and Julia, and all of their (7 total) girls. Ali's girls (top photo)  have been (mostly) in and out of the studio for years, their friends were new to the studio and were in for a surprise! It was an evening to cherish, all girls enjoyed each others ART, laughter, love and big hugs.  I enjoyed meeting these very special people and sharing my studio space with them. I cannot wait for them to return.  Thank you Ali...xo

cheese!

Thanks for the great shots, Jeb!

Jeb wanted to take some snaps during our very busy class yesterday.  As you can see, he caught everyone by surprise.  The last shot is a self portrait of the photographer.

printing

If you know me, you know that I love to print with children.
I love the process, the wide range of materials, the papers,
ink and paint you can experiment with.
Most of all I love the surprise at the end when you pull that finished print.

Here we are printing on foam pieces taped to the table.

Each child paints a section to print from
                                                                    pulls their print
                                                                and hangs them to dry.
Even the printing table is a work of art!

Nerina Pallot - Put Your Hands Up (Official Video)

i just fell head over heels...

pencil case

i love to paint on it and i love to sew it.
This pencil case project is a perfect combination of both.
I have made this several times before, using different fabric and felt
but this time with the natural canvas and the vibrant paint and the way it rolls right up for easy traveling for small hands it just works. LOVE.
...and by the way, colored pencils are from heaven.

this is how it goes.. but you can switch things up if you'd like!

.
I  pre-cut the canvas into a shape like this,
this is actually the backside of the case facing down.
Flip over and fold up the piece that will become the sleeve for the pencils. Measure the distance between slots, I used 1" , you want the pencil snuggle into the slot but not so tight you can't get it out.
you get the picture..
I sewed the left edge before adding my tie.. a 2" cotton weave,
you could also use ribbon, fabric strip, leather lacing or shoestring.
We painted with liquid watercolor paint mixed with a fabric medium that i love love LOVE.
                                                              Look at that amazing color!

We made this batch of pencil cases at the studio last spring.. I wanted to be sure all the children at Beehive had a set of colored pencils in their back pocket for summer travels.
